As the Pieces Fall I Count Them All by lonefirewarrior As the Pieces Fall I Count Them All by lonefirewarrior
With their enemies too numerous to fight conventionally, they only sit and wait for their last resort to finish clearing the region. While the enemy may be defeated, their loss comes with a price: a city that that should have been taken back will now be reduced to a radioactive wasteland, barren and uninhabitable for centuries. There are no true victors this day.

Corporal Shephard. We've been expecting you.

A long time coming, I finally finished numbah 14. Forgive the absence of Bumblebee and Star Trek. There was no room for everyone's favorite Camaro and the GMod 13 update apparently broke all of my Star Trek models. Shit is not cool. Anyways, the picture is big as hell as you can tell. But unlike the last one, it doesn't look like shit when you see the full size.

I wonder which is worse orbital bombardments from various ships ranging from the Covenant to the Protoss Daelaam, the Imperium of Man Exterminatus, or Godzilla being unleashed? Though I wonder and fear that if this war can't be won at all, then (with much carefully made plans and steps taken place) would the activation of the entire Halo Array with the Ark in addition to the Crucible to end the war once and for all?

i think Orbital Bombardment would be worse, Godzilla may be more terrifying to individuals, but a Base Delta Zero from a Star Destroyer, a Glassing from a Covenant capital ship, or anything else, is in the long run, more devastating, and quicker, though i guess if they aren't trying to get caught in the crossfire, Godzilla wouldn't be a bad choice

That and probably more accurate in hard to reach places since these foes can take refuge in areas they couldn't see in space unless they even try to escape him as well by going to the depths of the earth below and treat it as an emergancy bunker long as they can return safely up once it was the right opportunity.

well, a Base Delta Zero-type Orbital Bombardment reduces the entirety of the planetary crust to slag, in some places, even damaging it enough that the mantle will occasionally leak out onto the surface,

And what of the orbital bombardments from Star Wars, the Covenant's glassing, Protoss's purification of worlds that are Zerg-infested, and the Imperium of Man's Exterminatus?

thats where my knowledge is a bit lacking, i'm only really familiar with Star Wars, HALO, and Star Trek when it comes to Orbital Bombardment,
and the concept of Base Delta Zero comes from Star Wars, a single Imperial-Class Star Destroyer was capable of inflicting a BDZ on an average-sized planet, in the space of about a half week, if it deployed its TIE/B squadrons and Anti-ship Proton Torpedoes, in addition to its main compliment of 60 Heavy Turbolaser batteries. its Secondaries/Tertiaries, like it's Anti-fighter Medium and/or Heavy laser cannons, (of which no specific number is ever given, other than "a terrifying amount, located mostly around the superstructure and the lateral trenches) or the anti-ship/fighter Medium and/or Light Turbolaser batteries (of which no number is every specified, though those are mounted solely around the lateral trench) lack the range and energy per shot to reach the planetary surface, without dissociating in the atmosphere due to atmospheric resistance.

if the SD went atmospheric, it could bring more of it's weapons to bear, but would also be more vulnerable to ground-based attacks. At low altitude, ground-mounted Orbital Defense guns would be VASTLY more powerful than they would normally be, since thy wouldn't have to blast through all that atmosphere, and since grown emplacements have access to geothermal energy stations, or massive capacitor banks, they tend to be more powerful then ship-mounted equivalents to start with. Not to mention that at low altitude, the Star Destroyers AA/AAA/AM crews would have less time to shoot down incoming fighter craft and missiles. a couple well aimed ICBM's would probably be able to disable a Star Destroyer's shields, and if the SD's within atmosphere, it would have very little time to react to a launch.
so while it would make the bombardment quicker, being that close to the ground, you'd also be more likely to die in the process, from hostile ground forces

And considering who those ground forces are and some have considerable range that would be very wise.

i just realized, i spent that whole comment talking about Star Wars,
in the case of HALO, the Covenant have the edge when it comes to Orbital Bombardment, as their Plasma based weaponry is capable of melting the landscape, whereas the UNSC's mass-based weaponry relies on it's kinetic energy (of which there is an INSANE amount, don't get me wrong) to do all of the damage. and while that means that the UNSC's MACs and other magnetically accelerated weaponry are better at penetrating underground fortifications, they do less AOE and long term damage. Covenant Plasma Torpedoes, and the Energy Projector's mounted on the underside of the larger capital ships, operate on different principals, and do do a lot more surface damage, compared to the equivalents used by the UNSC.

now, as for Star Trek, for the most part, the ships used in the Star Trek universe seem to be a lot more fragile, even ships designed for combat, like Klingon vessels, the Defiant, the Prometheus, and even the Enterprise-E, tend to fall apart at the slightest bit of damage. and the weaponry, while it sounds more advanced, doesn't actually have as much of a yield as their Star Wars equivalents. With the exception of Photon and Quantum Torps, those are quite a bit more powerful pound for pound than the Proton Torpedoes used in Star Wars, though larger ships like Star Destroyers are often equipped with Capital Ship-sized Proton Torpedoes, that are significantly more powerful than a Photon Torpedo, simply because they're so much larger.
Phaser's aren't very suited to orbital bombardment,as all of the damage they inflict is very pinpoint and precise, even the disintegration effects on organic matter (at the higher settings) tend to be extremely localized, not spreading very far or inflicting much thermal damage to the surrounding areas.
and whereas a Turbolaser bolt from a Star Destroyer can be up to 20-25 meters in width, even the largest Phaser Array, the Type-XI used aboard the Sovereign-Class Battlecruisers/Explorers only generate a beam of 1.5 meters in diameter, so most of a Federation Starships ability to attack a ground-based target is centered around it's Torpedoes...

i feel like a lecturer...
could i have a PhD?

If they were fighting Godzilla, the majority of them wouldn't be sitting there apathetic to what he's doing.

Plus descriptions. Come on man.
