Download the "Ragdoll mover" and "Legacy Addons" addons from the Steam Workshop. Ragdoll Mover makes moving models around easier and the Legacy Addons makes finding addons in the oldschool format easier to find.

Not really. It all kind of comes down to preference. But if you need maps you can always check out FPSbanana, Facepunch.com and garrysmod.org. You don't need an account for the first two, but for garrysmod.org you need to do some weird thing to prove you have a legit Steam account.
